Join us at Museums: Shaping the Future of Education, a 4-day conference that will explore areas such as new technologies or approach for learning, accessibility as well as partnerships and co-creations.

Some questions that will be discussed:

  • How can digital access expand learning opportunities and empower audiences?
  • What do you envision the future of museum experience to look like?
  • What are some examples of programmes that empower the underserved communities / audiences?
  • How can we bridge the gaps (between schools and museums, museums and audiences, etc.)?
  • What are some innovative ways to engage audiences?
  • How can museum spaces be used to promote life-long learning?
 
 
 

ICOM-CECA 2023 Annual Conference is organised by National Heritage Board, Singapore and supported by Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION

This conference is open and free for all ICOM Members and Singapore Museum Roundtable Members only.

If you have been selected to present at the conference but you are not an ICOM member yet, please register as a member here.

The conference presentation will take place from 20 – 22 November 2023 and the Cultural Programme comprising learning journeys to various museums and sites and sharing sessions will take place from 23 – 24 November 2023.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Ms Claire Louise Eveling Bown
Founder, Thinking Museum
Claire Bown is a museum educator, trainer, facilitator, author and podcast host, originally from the UK and currently based in the Netherlands. With over 25 years of experience in the field of museum and heritage education, and a strong background in designing and facilitating guided experiences, Claire founded Thinking Museum in 2013. Her expertise lies in consulting, designing, and leading professional learning opportunities for museum educators, guides, docents, and volunteers, encompassing a wide range of facilitation and engagement techniques, including her own approach Visible Thinking in the Museum. Claire loves teaching people the secrets of facilitating engaging experiences with art, objects and visitors.

Dr. Aidan M Wong
Assistant Professor of Urban Studies (Education), College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University and Deputy Director, Wee Kim Wee Centre
Aidan Wong is Assistant Professor of Urban Studies (Education), College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University, where he is also Deputy Director, Wee Kim Wee Centre. Trained as an economic geographer, Aidan’s teaching interests include urban cultures, Singapore studies, and food cultures. He is also a strong supporter of SMU-X (a unique University-Industry collaborative project-based learning), and adopts this teaching pedagogy in his delivery of courses. Aidan’s research interests include urban waste management and environmental citizenship; urban heritage and active citizenship; and labour relations, particularly in the informal economy, the gig economy, and youth entrepreneurship.

GETTING TO ASIAN CIVILISATIONS MUSEUM

By Private Hire Cars / Taxis

Drivers (drop-off only) can reach the Asian Civilisations Museum via a road behind Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, via Parliament Place and Old Parliament Lane.

Public parking is available at the basement car park of the New Parliament House, at Six Battery Road and at One Fullerton across from the Fullerton Hotel.

By Bus

The Asian Civilisations Museum is a 2-minute walk from the Fullerton Square bus stop (03011), via bus services 10, 10e, 57, 70, 75, 100, 107, 128, 130, 131, 162, 167, 196, 196e, 700, 850E, 868, 951E, and 971E.

By Train

The Asian Civilisations Museum is a 5-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT Station (Exit H).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Singapore is hot and humid with an average temperature of 32 Degrees Celsius with thundery showers expected in the afternoons on some days. Do remember to pack your essentials to protect yourself from the rain and especially the sun.
  • The dress code for presentations is business casual. There is no need for a suit and tie. Work shirts and bottoms with covered shoes are generally acceptable and appropriate.
  • All our museums are air-conditioned, but a light jacket would suffice.
  • To support our sustainability goals, there will be no bottled water provided. Tap water in Singapore is portable. Do remember to bring a reusable water bottle for your use during your time in Singapore.
  • Singapore is widely connected via Wi-Fi and cashless payments are accepted at most establishments. Apple Pay and Google Pay via your smart phones and smart watches are also supported.
