Conference Related Questions

Titled “Museums: Shaping the Future of Education”, the conference aims to promote dialogues, share research and international best practices of museums in the field of education. The conference will be exploring themes such as accessibility, new technologies or approaches for learning, partnerships and co-creation, museums as future classrooms as well as promotion of life-long learning.

The conference will be held from 20 to 24 November 2023 at Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore.

Only ICOM members and Museum Roundtable Members* can attend the conference.

Note: *Museum Roundtable Member is applicable to Singapore only.

If you have been selected to present at the conference but you are not an ICOM member yet, please visit this website to register as a member.

You will be required to renew your membership for 2023. You will need to show proof of 2023’s membership (2023 sticker needs to be affixed on your ICOM card.)

The conference is non-chargeable for all ICOM members and Museum Roundtable Members.

There is no provision for travel grant and presenters/participants will have to cover their own expenses for flight ticket and accommodation.

  • Provide context for the audience to understand your museum/site.
  • Timing is important to ensure the conference runs smoothly as time allocated to each presenter is fixed.
  • Please speak slowly so that all international audience can follow and understand your presentation.
  • Please note that some segments will be livestreamed.
  • Please ensure that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the session to prepare yourself for the presentation.
  • As a speaker you agree to provide us with your slides for upload at the Conference and embedding on CECA websites. You retain full copyright over your slides but grant CECA the rights to use these as appropriate on the CECA websites.

All presenters are expected to attend the full conference in person. Online presentations will not be allowed.

You may present in any of the official ICOM languages – English, French or Spanish. However, the main language for the conference is in English and there will not be any live translation. Please ensure that all your presentation slides are in English or with English translation.

a) Research Paper Presentation – Duration: 20 minutes
b) Thematic Paper Presentation – Duration: 15 minutes
c) Market of Ideas Presentation – Duration: 7 minutes

A1 sized poster (Dimension: 23.4 x 33.1 inches)

Speakers will stand by their posters and share with participants who want to learn more. This is a good opportunity to meet professionals and to share your work in detail with many others in the sector. The poster should be visually attractive to demonstrate one to two key points which address the conference theme. It should not be an essay or academic article on your subject. Posters should contain text and images or diagrams to illustrate your points. Posters should also include the following information:

  • Name of the author, institution and e-mail address
  • What the subject is and why it is important
  • How the project was original
  • Results or end product
  • Consequences or follow-up

Presentation slides:
Please submit your presentation slides to [email protected] 2 weeks before the conference (i.e. no later than 3 Nov 2023). For file size larger than 20MB, please save it on Google Drive or use a file sharing platform such as WeTransfer and share the link with us.

Posters: 
Please submit your poster artwork to [email protected] 3 weeks before the conference (i.e. no later than 27 October 2023) for printing on mounting board by the conference organising committee. For file size larger than 20MB, please save it on Google Drive or use a file sharing platform such as WeTransfer and share the link with us.

The main conference language will be in English and no translation will be provided at the conference.

Seating capacities for the venues are as follow:

  • Auditorium: up to 170 pax
  • River Room: up to 150 pax
  • Discovery and Demo Room: Up to 50 pax
 

Note that the size of the audience for each session depends on interest of participants to attend the session.

The Opening Address, Keynote Speeches and Best Practice Award Presentation segments of the conference will be livestreamed on Facebook. All other sessions will not be livestreamed.
